Policy Research

Beginning in 1998 the Legal Action Center (LAC) has developed a cutting-edge public policy research program, housed in our Arthur Liman Policy Institute named for LAC’s founding and 25-year Chairman of the Board.

LAC’s Arthur Liman Policy Institute conducts research with a primary focus on how changes in social welfare, public health, and criminal justice law and policy affect individuals with alcohol and drug problems, individuals with HIV, and people with criminal records. Goals of the research include improving access to treatment, prevention, and other needed services and facilitating successful reintegration into society for low-income individuals who have one or more of these issues in their lives, and improving and reforming laws and policies that address alcohol and drug addiction, AIDS, and crime.

The Legal Action Center conducts policy research both Nationally and within New York State.
