Advance Screening of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” Benefits the Legal Action Center
LAC Board member Doug Liman, director of the hit movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, generously arranged a preview screening of the movie to benefit for the Legal Action Center. More than 500 people attended the sold-out screening at the Clearview Chelsea West theater in Manhattan on June 2, 2005, a week before its release.
Before the screening began Doug Liman welcomed everyone and called upon Arnon Melchan, the Executive Producer of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” to introduce the movie. Doug also introduced Paul N. Samuels, the President and Director of the Legal Action Center, who briefly described the Center’s work and thanked everyone for their generosity—the amount raised has now exceeded $205,000. All donations will directly support the Center’s work since all expenses were covered by the sponsors.
Immediately following the screening New York Magazine moderated a discussion of the movie by a panel that included director Doug Liman, screenwriter Simon Kinberg, and producers Akiva Goldsman and Lucas Foster. After the discussion, everyone who attended the screening was treated to an after-party at the Hotel Gansevoort sponsored by New York Magazine.
Doug Liman, who also directed the hit movies “Swingers” and “The Bourne Identity,” is a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Action Center. He also arranged for an advance screening of “The Bourne Identity” before its release on behalf of the Legal Action Center. Click here for details of “The Bourne Identity” benefit screening.
